Crossing The Line

Okay...I may have crossed the line. I realize we all do crazy things at times but I just may have outdone myself this time. I don't know what I was thinking or maybe I simply wasn't thinking, merely reacting. It happens.

I understand fully why God gave us two ears and only one mouth. And the foot is made larger than the opening of the mouth because it wasn't intended to be put there...I get that. Really, I do.

But sometimes when all focus and concentration is on one object, the rest of the world becomes invisible and far out of reach for common sense.

James 1:19 says, "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak"

Now I was very quick to hear but if my mouth and my brain were in a race, I'd have to say my mouth would be the clear winner. I didn't say anything wrong and I didn't hurt anyone with my words. In fact, no one else even heard anything because I was at home alone when my brain disengaged. Well, almost alone anyway.

If I had to point a finger of blame at anyone other than myself, it would be pointed at those pesky cats. I was in my office concentrating intently on my work while successfully blocking the rest of the world out. And then, without warning the cats started going crazy downstairs. They were running through the house making all kinds of noise. They were actually knocking things over as they played and who knows what all they were doing. And there lies the problem...I didn't know what they were doing.

So naturally, I called down to them, "Hey, what are y'all doing?" Did I say 'naturally'? Yeah, you heard it right. I actually asked the CATS what they were doing. And not just once, I repeated it. I'm not sure what I would have done if they had answered. I mean, I didn't expect them to answer. And yet...I have to admit I DID ask the question.

Sometimes it seems as though we do the same thing with God. We pray but do we always expect an answer? How many times have you or someone you know prayed about something and then acted totally surprised when your prayer was answered? You may pray for healing and the next day tell someone, "Wow! Guess what? I'm healed!" Total surprise. Or maybe you've prayed for a particular need to be met and then said, "You won't believe this but my need has been met!" Complete shocker.

C'mon you've done it, I've done it too. But why? Was it because we didn't really believe He would answer? Surely, it wasn't because of a lack of faith in His ability to answer prayer. So why? I'm not sure I have the answer to that. Maybe it's because we know we have done nothing to deserve His love. I'm not sure.

However, unlike my cats we can depend on God to answer when we call. He said so when he spoke through the prophet Jeremiah in chapter 33 verse 3, "Call to me and I will answer you..." It's as simple as that. We really shouldn't be surprised, should we?

By the way, I can't have you thinking that I am some crazy old cat lady. I may be a little crazy at times and true I'm getting older and I do spend a lot of energy on the cats but...nevermind.

Hmmm, gotta quit wasting my time talking to those cats!
