They were meant to be together for life. Their marriage was strong and sound. But that was before the 'other woman' showed up.

The wife is a normally pleasant, forgiving and accepting woman but now she had grown somewhat cynical. A plight many women are destined to experience sooner or later. Don't get me wrong, their love was still strong. After all, the 'other woman' wasn't actually a person. She was only a 'voice' on the new GPS Navigational System he had purchased.

Like most men, he didn't appreciate us well-meaning wives who enjoy giving directions from the passenger side of the car. And yet he allowed the strange 'other woman' to tell him every turn he was to make and just how far to travel. And when he missed a turn she did the same thing a wife would do. A 'good' wife would say, 'You missed the turn, turn around and go back. But of course the husband probably wouldn't appreciate her instruction. However, this 'other woman' immediately says....'recalculating' followed by her turning around instructions. Somehow, this is acceptable. Go figure.

However, while on a trip with this couple I realized how clever the wife was. She seemed to be 'mocking the other woman's voice' at first. You know what I mean, repeating the words with the same ultra sweet voice of the GPS. But after some thought I have come to believe she may have been practicing a way to give driving directions that would be acceptable to her husband. I'll have to ask her how that worked out for her.

Sometimes it's not what you say but how you say it. At least that's what the scripture tells us in Proverbs 15:1, 'A gentle answer turns away wrath'.

Maybe GPS in the navigational system isn't really an acronym for Global Positioning System. Maybe it means 'Gentle Persuasive Speaking'.

Maybe not... it's just a thought.
